Pittsburgh alderman, police magistrate, and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Fitzgerald was first elected alderman of the Fifth Ward in 1937 and served in the office, as a result of successful periodical elections, until 1962. He was appointed to serve the unexpired term of Robert E. (Pappy) Williams and subsequently elected to the position of police magistrate in 1964. Items in the scrapbook generally pertain to his political career. There is congratulatory correspondence, including letters and telegrams. Of particular interest are two election certificates from 1937 and 1943. Newspaper clippings relate the story of his public life; programs, an invitation, etc. indicate his status in the community which he served. Subjects include civil rights, relates Pittsburg race relations, and equal rights.
